Gleaming with the Gold of a Hard Life Well Lived

So many threads have twisted between her ancient fingers, thickening, becoming substance from

fine fibres.

The carded wool is like floss, too young to hold fast, but smooth; so smooth.

Even so, splinters of burr and blackthorn can still prick her leathery kind hands, while her foot

rocks peacefully on the treadle, as it has for six decades.

Card it , spin it, reel it. Then over again,

The ply feels alive in her aching hands, and when the sun is low in the deep window,

it gleams with the gold of a hard life, well lived.
